Toby St George’s Story: How LITH-TECH Became the UK’s Leading Electric Wheelchair Specialist

By Published On: 10 November 2025

Where it all started

Toby grew up in Four Marks, a small village in Hampshire just outside Alton. School wasn’t exactly his natural habitat!

“I was that ADHD kid who couldn’t sit still, and that had really bad dyslexia.”

With some tough love (thanks, Mum!) Being grounded for two months before his exams, he got through his GCSEs at Ditcham Park with passes.

A family tragedy at just the age of twenty, prompted a move to Farnham. He’s been situated around the Surrey/Hampshire border ever since, with brief stints in London and travels through Southeast Asia and Australia.

Finding his lane

Toby’s first career was built around sport and the human body. He trained as a PT with Nuffield Health, learning sports science, biomechanics, disability considerations, and how bodies work (and don’t). The empathy and practical, problem-solving mindset from those years turned out to be gold dust later on.

A career in Sales came next and then finally settled into entrepreneurship at just the age of 25. In Sydney he worked for one of the city’s biggest event promoters, learned the game fast, and launched a rival outfit, KX Promotion (Kings Cross). Visa dramas brought him home, but the bug had bitten:

“I realised I wasn’t meant to work for people. I could easily just do it myself.”

Spotting the gap that changed everything

Leaving the car prestige trade (“too many crooked shoulders being rubbed”), Toby studied where the world was heading: portable tech, everything going electric with the power coming from lithium batteries. He made a list of all the useful products that used lithium-batteries and then investigated the categories, checked saturation, future need, and where his own background could add real value.

Mobility stood out. The sector was underserved and very oldschool, products felt heavy, clunky and few leaders were modernising it.

“This is an area I can really shake up.”

So he did!

LITH-TECH: from self-storage to specialist

No vanity premises.
No over-hiring.
Just reinvestment
Good products
Relentless service to our customers

In the early days Toby kept stock in self-storage, and ran demos from his Farnham flat while working nights for an events company.

That scrappy start became today’s operation: a 4,000 sq ft HQ (plus satellite units), 400–500 chairs in stock, and 1,000+ spare parts on hand.

What makes LITH-TECH different

Toby calls it the trust factor: all about understanding our customers needs first, then matching them to the right chair.

  • Largest range of models in the UK: ~14 models, so recommendations are based on the person’s disability, lifestyle, environment, height/weight, and support network, not what happens to be on a shelf.
  • Methodical profiling: ~15 targeted questions cover disability, usecase, home access, transport, daily routine, and comfort.
  • Education-first: an industry-leading YouTube channel that explains the market, not just LITH-TECH’s products.
  • Fast aftercare: next-day delivery on parts; mission to fix issues in 1–4 days (usually 1–3), depending on where you are based in the country.
  • Stocked spares: 1,000+ parts in the building, so customers aren’t left waiting for slow imports.

“Seven out of ten web orders placed without talking to us need a change or adaptation. Just call. That’s what a specialist is for.”

People buy from people

A lot of LITH-TECH customers are vulnerable or navigating new diagnoses. Toby’s style is to be straight with people and to care. He’ll answer weekend emails and, if someone’s stuck in a supermarket with a loose lead, jump on the phone to walk them through a fix any time of day.

That approach shows up in loyalty.

Some customers are on their fourth LITH-TECH chair over many, many years.

“We also have customers who run multiple chairs at once, one for each car hoist, plus an indoor chair.”

The power of our video tutorials (and why they matter)

In the mobility world to the untrained eye, “they all look like wheelchairs,” so the real differences are the components used, frame material and the way the chair is put together.,. Our LITH-TECH’s videos explain the industry, common buying mistakes, and how to get the right fit. It’s why LITH-TECH can do 80% of our sales over the phone with confidence; an email quote links videos and underlines the exact model discussed so customers can see everything clearly.

Toby’s 30-second elevator pitch: Why buy from LITH-TECH

“We’re the UK specialist with the widest range of folding electric wheelchairs and over 1,000 spare parts ready for next-day delivery. We’ll earn your trust by understanding your disability, lifestyle, and use case, then recommend the exact chair and add-ons you need.

We’ve helped 5,000+ customers and have one of the highest rated Trustpilot profiles in UK Mobility. We’ll methodically guide you, send a clear quote with video links, and you decide no pushy sales. Nine times out of ten, people join LITH-TECH.”

Thinking about a chair?

  1. Talk to our specialists first. A 10-minute call can save months of frustration and wasted money.
  2. Have your use-case list ready.  Needs to be light, Home access, car hoists/boot space, travel plans, body measurements, conditions, support network.
  3. Ask for the video links. Seeing your recommended chair in action will allow you to feel confident in what you’re purchasing.
  4. Check aftercare. Stocked spares and clear fix-time commitments matter more than any spec sheet – we’re always on hand should you need support post purchase.
